Saturday April 12th
Today was missionary conference. We had activities at the (BYU Smith )Fieldhouse. I wrestled and got smeared. Afterwards I threw up. After I’d recovered I watched a rugby game. BYU beat Denver U…something like 48-0. Then we played a game of volleyball against the Italians and got creamed. After dinner our zone sang a number in the Mission taken show. We did something right today in the talent show=we sang real well and everyone enjoyed it. Afterwards we had a farewell party for the anciens who leave next week. It was a riot. All for now.

Dr. Terry Warner spoke to us today on being what we pretend to be. When we define the reasons we’re here, we can say “Because your mother made you or because of social pressure.” But when we go far enough out in our definitions we will finally come to the truth. The real reason for being here. For me will it because I love God or because I fear men and social pressure.
I sincerely pray for the former reason. You can fake it through the mission interview, through the L.T.M. (language training mission), even through your mission and life but there will come a time when you can’t fake what you are. You can’t fake being a servant of God; you can’t fake loving your brother, you can’t fake being a missionary. What we are radiates to all those around us — Integrity—BE WHAT YOU PRETEND — recognize that you are in a battle with Satan and must fight with the strongest weapons you have. Appeal not to the mind through eloquence of speech and logical presentations but touch the heart and testify to the spirit of the people.
Matt 14—cleanse the inward vessel and the outward will take care of itself. Must have a desire, a drive, to serve the Lord. I believe we all have a desire or we really wouldn’t be here but along with this peu (little) desire we must have faith and works and develop, strive hard to learn how to be a faithful servant and a willing servant of the Lord.
