MADRID—Friday night. It’s raining as the plane touched down. From Wednesday on it’s been a real exciting trip. Paris Thursday night. We got a hotel then walked all over the city from Notre Dame to Champs-Elyses. We had dinner at Pino Pizza on the Avenue. Feet were well worn down. Then it was the Metros and Paris the next morning. We hit the “les invalides”, Napoleon’s tomb, Tour Eiffel. The Champs. Had lunch at the Louvre. Then headed out to the airport. Traffic jam. I thought it would never end. We flew into Madrid. It was rainy and cold. the first thing we noticed was that Spain smelled differently. Funny.
We checked out 2 hotels and found a real inexpensive but very nice one. The lady at the desk spoke a little English too The next morning it was sight seeing. We went to the University, met some fine people. The Spanish seem to be very hospitable. Elder Plant never came until Saturday night so we ran around in a three some having the time of our lives. We had a nice diner Saturday night. I ordered shrimp—-yeeche!! The bad part about it was that I did the same thing last night. Sunday was cleaning day. That is to say we got taken to the cleaners. TAP (airlines?) lost my suitcase. We took a taxi out 20 km then didn’t like the hotel so we turned around and came back. $10.00 guided taxi tour is what it turned out to be. But we did finally find a real nice reasonable hotel after walking out of the second one. Then we looked over town. Ferry ride across the bay and dinner. Webb got sick (by eating my shrimp).
